Comfort Food Alert #2: Dixie House Cafe

Next up in my 1st annual "it's cold outside and I want comfort food so I can get winter body ready"* list is my grandfathers beloved Dixie House Cafe. I swear, he goes there so much they might as well name a booth after him.

*That's a work in progress title

Look at those buns!

To be honest, when I was younger and didn't know what good food was and lived solely off pizza and Chick-fil-a, I wasn't such a huge fan. Now that I'm older you'll have to pry their chicken fried steak deal* from my cold, dead hands. AND they have breakfast all day!

*Pro Tip: Every Monday and Wednesday they have a deal on chicken fried steak or chicken fried chicken + 2 veggies for 4.99. Get you some.

A heads up to those of you in Fort Worth, you probably already know about this place because there are THREE locations out there! For a full list, here ya go.

Onto the main attraction, the CFS!

I've gotten this with both breakfast and dinner sides and you really can't go wrong either way. For this post though, we're gonna focus on breakfast: it comes with your choice of hash browns or potatoes, 2 eggs, cream gravy (brown gravy for life), and choice of biscuit or toast.

As you can see, this plate is massive. There's even more hash browns and half my second egg hiding under there. No beans about it, unless I haven't eaten all day or didn't eat dinner the night before, I'm not finishing this in one sitting — which is also great, because leftovers!

There was an attempt...

Aside from the CFS and the Eckrich smoked sausage and egg sandwich, I can't really give my two-cents on the other menu items because I know what I like here, and it's one of those restaurants I'll order the same dang thing there every time. Zero shame. In saying that, you pretty much can't go wrong here with anything you order, and if it does go wrong for some crazy reason, there's always pie (and pancakes, I lied, those are delicious too)!

Pancake action

And a shot of my cousins plate and the bacon he didn't share.

It bears repeating that you just can't go wrong with their menu, whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner.Overall, If you're looking for something fancy, you're barking up the wrong tree. Dixie house is one of those places where they don't really care who you are, what you're wearing (within reason, don't be that guy), or what tv show you were on 5 years ago, but you better come armed with your manners or you're bound to get an earful. And make sure you order a sweet tea for me!
